Eastern Tube Nosed Bat

Eastern Tube Nosed Bat Pteropodidae family nyctimene robinsoni found northeastern corner Australia

Eastern Tube-Nosed Bat

Roosting on branches of trees, they do not appear to roost together in groups; preferring to roost in thick vegetation, well camouflaged when they wrap themselves in their wings.

The "Eastern Tube Nosed Bat" has a diet of nectar and pollen of native Australian and introduced fruit, such as guava fruits and others that are very close to the ground.

Unfortunately, the Eastern Tube Nosed bat prefers rainforests and most of its habitat has been destroyed by man.

Uniquely, these bats make a whistling call; nostrils shaped like tubes, it is not clear what the tubes function is. They also fly very low to the ground in search of food.
